Motor is a street art/graffiti painter from Copenhagen, now living in East London. This last weekend she was painting in Stockwell, and I went to take a few photos, and wish her a Happy New Year.

I hope to tag along to more painting sessions in 2012 with her and Solo One.

A couple of years back he did the Thru You project, which I recommend you check out, if you haven't already seen it.

Had the pleasure of having breakfast atop Central Point a couple of weeks back, and the views were pretty excellent, even though the weather was a bit cloudy.

This is a shot looking east, with the Gurkin, The Shard, and Renzo Piano's newly build Central Saint Giles in the front.

I love this idea, would be fun to do in a lot of different countries and cities. My favorite is the guy that listens to Lollipop by Lil Wayne around the 2.05 mark, he reminds me so much of the opening scene in Office Space.

Using the O2 Wireless Box II as a bridge

When I moved to London and picked a company for my internet connection, I went with O2 as I already had my mobile contract with them, so figured it would come with a little discount if I went with their broadband package as well. It did, so that was all well and good.

The only problem was, that my connection is a modem solution, and not a cable solution, as there's no cable coverage in my area, I guess. The problem with this is, that I like to use my own router, because you can usually make them do more tricks than the one made available by the telco.

I have a Linksys WRT54GL router, which you can hack to bits, and that's why I got it. There are number of great open source firmwares out there for this router, including dd-wrt, tomato, and OpenWrt. I like a good and memorable name, so I went with tomato.

O2 supplies their ADSL broadband customers with a wireless router, the O2 Wireless Box II, connected directly to the wall, to get the ADSL connection. This means there is no modem in between, to which you can connect your router, and be a happier geek.

Except, there is.

The trick is to setup the O2 Wireless II box to function as a bridge, and to do that, you need to do some CLI-gymnastics in a telnet prompt, but if you are up for the task, it actually works!

I found Luke's instructions over on Nothing But Reboots to be of great help in this regard. I followed them point by point, and I now have my O2 Wireless Box II working as a bridge to my WRT54GL running tomato. The only difference is, that O2 seems to have changed the password for the SuperUser account to be the serial number of your O2 box, which doubtlessly makes it less insecure than before.

Happy days, and a more stable wireless experience.

An Open Letter to Gmail's Priority Inbox

or, also known as

My Inbox Secretary Has Dementia

Dear Priority Inbox,

I've been a great fan of yours since you rolled into my life by way of brilliance in engineering, algorithmic perfection, and raw computing power. I love the concept too, it’s like having a secretary read through all your email (which you do already of course), and then set boolean flags for each of them (important and unread, starred, important, etc). Great.

Because of you, I have been able to reply to messages that was important, unread, and urgent. This is truly handy, in days of receiving large volumes of email, where brain cycles needed for sorting those lines of recipients, subjects and dates, are better preserved for other, more rewarding stuff, such as, consuming copious amounts of mezzo-prandial edibles and perfecting your Facebook in-stream insults.

Anyway, I didn't write you all this just to pat you on the back, because, Priority Inbox, you and me, in spite of having spend a lot of time together, watching each other (in a totally non-voyeuristic, platonic manner), sharing best practices, even sometimes sharing a good joke, we have come to the parting of our road of mutual enjoyment. Quite frankly, we disagree profusely about some very important issues with regards to my inbox. I'm not saying it's your fault entirely, but it has to do with priority and importance, which would be your métier, not mine.

Without packing it in further, we seem to have communication issues. One day a week I receive 5 emails in a bundle, always the same day of the week, always the same amount of emails, always at the same time, from the same sender, with roughly the same title, with the same attachment. These properties unfortunately seem to elicitate your "OMG this must be TEH important emailz of today!!1!"-filter, and you promptly mark them all "Important", and they float to the top.

In the beginning I was like "meh, alright, you silly computer". It's true, I am the only recipient of those emails, it is written to my account specifically, they do have long subjects that make them look important, and yes, they do have attachments, but ffs, if I have marked them "Not Important" every.fecking.time they arrive since the dawn of your inception, why do you so adamantly insist on them being so effing important?

As I said, I'm putting this down to a case of communication difficulties, but I was wondering if there was any other way to tell you how I feel about these things? The binary option I have been given to influence your amazing decision power (the bleeding obvious "Mark as Not Important"), is not having the expected effect. In fact, every day these emails arrive, I feel like we are on each side of the table in the argument clinic, having a contradiction, and not really an argument (“these mails are important” - “no, they are aren’t” - “yes they are” - “no, they aren’t” etc, ad nauseam). Is there anything else I can do to relay to you, that these emails, are not important? Would it help fire your learning synapsis, if I choreographed a dance for you, and performed it to the sound of whales singing in the pacific, how completely unimportant these emails are to me, and hence should be to you too? Can I tell you, via elaborate carvings in the outer layers of onions? Can I braid it in fresh chives grown in the soil of any vulcanic mediterranean isle? Someone I can write to, pray to?

No, you say? Well then we shall part. You have seized to be my priority, inbox.

KVBeats drops The Résumé

K-V, the man behind rapspot.dk, the Danish flagship of hiphop, has dropped his debut producer album, The Résumé, on vinyl and on iTunes. The album features some well known MCs in the game, such as Royce da 5'9", Prince Po, Chaundon, Slum Village, Mic Geronimo and more.

K-V (aka KVBeats) also relays the story behind how he made the album on his blog, and drops some full lenght tracks off the album. My personal favorite at the moment is Chaundon's "Ambitions of a Writer". It's already been played by DJ Premier on his "Live From HeadQCourterz" show!

Here's a sampler of the album on YouTube. Congrats Vic, I remember you were talking about this back in 2005!

The elusive Pixelpipe Uploadr for Mac

This is more for my own sake, having spent 45 minutes looking for the standalone Pixelpipe application for mac, Googling those exact words returned nuffin', and I had to go through some dodgy download site to get to the direct URL for the application. Also the Pixelpipe support, blog, and website in general was not worth a hell of lot in giving any information. Seems like they deleted the OS X tag from their blog, including the one post that seemed to live there.

And dear Pixelpipe, the mac uploader is pretty brilliant, why aren't you linking to it from your tools section?

Anyway, here's the link for Pixelpipe uploader for mac. In case that link breaks, I put it on divshare as well.

MF Doom - Dublin

The long anticipated European tour of MF Doom, Mad Villain, Victor Vaughn, etc, etc, the man with many names kicked of this autumn, and also blessed the Irish shores, thanks to the boys at Choice Cuts.

DOOM was 90 minutes late, then had some sound and video issues, but proceeded to do a 45 minutes gig, that pretty much kicked ass, but could have carried on for another 45 minutes. With the back catalogue the size of DOOM's, a 45 minutes session is slightly disappointing, but still, we did get tracks like "Hoe Cakes", "Accordion", "All Caps", "Ballskin", and more.

Some pictures from the show below:

Monday drop

Remember when Jay-Z was hanging out with Jaz-O on The Originators back in 1990? I wonder if Jay-Z still has his Africa medallion from back then?

That would be plenty ghetto.

I'm not too familiar with his style today, but he's got a pretty tight flow on this one fo' sho'.

In other news, Jaz-O apparently has major issues with Jay-Z, and years of beef has developed between the lads. Although a proud muslim preaching in "The Originators", I don't see his muslim angel highlighted as he hangs out in Atlanta on this recent clip talking about their beef.

Hip hop is certainly full of something.
