Hopper as Danish Hipster 06.10.2008

What If Edward Hopper Were a Danish Hipster?
The image is part of Dan Witz's (whose name is suspiciously close to an old colleague of mine. Dan, is this your artsy alias?) exhibition at DFN Gallery, which also features paintings of people illuminated by the light from their mobile phone. The title of the above mention in NYMag is so spot on I would almost think it was a Danish person who wrote it. But it ain't. The image really looks like Nighthawks, if it had been done by a hipster artist, today.
For anybody none-danish, the image is of a Pølsevogn (hot dog stand), branded by the Danish abattoir Tulip. An institution in Danish life, and particularly night life, the pølsevogn is also famously known as a Skinkekutter (a ham cutter). You can have traditional sausages such as medister and wash it down with danish soda drinks. They very rarely sell international brands in a Pølsevogn. You can also order the sexually subtle (or horribly perverted, depending on your personal settings) French hot dog, which is a sausage, stuffed inside a baguette, with white dressing.

Spot on, Jonas! Great image and very very Hopper! God, I love his works, but my wife does not agree so the art poster collection in our home is missing his contribution big time! :-)

I actually had a pølsevogn-hotdog with our man Gøgler the other night, since I couldn't persuade him to enter MickyDees, and I've had like 73 sharwarmakebabs lately. It was my first in years, and OMG it was awesome! I burnt my tongue, though...

I'm very pleased to hear that Gøgleren didn't succumb to your MickyDee misbehavour (: They are pretty decent, I have to say, I just always regret it the post-hotdog burbs you get the day after, and sometimes even days after. I mean, I like the hotdog in the moment of consumption, but the constant reminder from the depth of my stomach is something I always regret, hehe.
